CIMA F2: Advanced Financial Reporting connects reported figures with business understanding. Build clear workings, question comparisons and explain what financial information can and cannot show.
CIMA F2 is the financial subject at Management level of the CGMA Professional Qualification. Its reporting perspective connects financing, group information and the interpretation of financial statements.
A useful explanation goes beyond a headline figure. For example, a change in a ratio may reflect a business change, a reporting choice or a different comparison basis. Learners need to work through those possibilities before reaching a conclusion.
Therefore, connect the calculation with the context. In addition, current F2 study includes sustainability reporting; check the official qualification update guidance and examination blueprints for the applicable scope.CIMA F2 Advanced Financial Reporting study roadmap
First, compare funding choices. Then work through group accounts and reporting treatments. Finally, connect the figures with business evidence and use mixed tasks to review the links between topics.
| Sessions | Study focus | Practice goal |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Financing capital projects | Compare funding costs and assumptions. |
| 2–3 | Group financial statements | Show consolidation adjustments clearly. |
| 4–7 | Financial instruments, transactions, assets and obligations | Explain the reason for each reporting treatment. |
| 8–9 | Statement analysis, integrated and sustainability reporting | Interpret evidence and recognise its limitations. |
| 10 | Integrated F2 revision | Review numerical and analytical tasks together. |
The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
The CIMA was founded in 1919. The CIMA head office is located in London, UK.
AICPA & CIMA support a global community of members, candidates and registrants. Refer to their official organisation resources for current membership information.
Make a reporting explanation easy to follow. State the issue, show the relevant evidence and connect each adjustment with its reason.
Finally, distinguish what the information supports from what remains uncertain. This helps a reader judge the conclusion without treating a single figure as the whole story.
The 10 sessions connect funding choices, reporting treatments, group information and analysis. First, work through a defined reporting problem. Then explain the adjustments and consider how the result should be interpreted. Finally, bring the topics together in mixed revision tasks.
Start with a short reporting problem and build an explanation a reviewer can follow. First, identify the fact that matters. Then separate the accounting treatment from the interpretation of the result.
Finally, change a fact and revisit your answer. This helps reveal whether you understand the reasoning behind the treatment.
Use a worked example to discuss why each adjustment is needed. For example, ask what would change if the relationship between entities were different. In addition, compare explanations of the same result to see which one gives a reader enough context.
Practise with a short set of facts and a clear trail of workings. First, check units and the reporting period. Next, review signs, adjustments and totals. Then write a concise explanation that matches the figures rather than adding a general conclusion.
Use mixed reporting tasks to practise choosing an approach without a topic prompt. After the attempt, review the treatment, working and interpretation separately. However, a practice score does not establish readiness or replace the official CIMA assessment. Use the findings to plan the next study session.
Review an F2 answer for a clear connection between facts, treatment and explanation:
For example, an accurate ratio may support a weak conclusion if the periods are not comparable. Therefore, assess the quality of the interpretation as well as the arithmetic.
F2 uses a computer-based objective test. Practice selecting the required answer from the facts, then check the accuracy of entries as well as the underlying reporting treatment.

Advanced financial reporting study can support tasks that require a clear explanation of reported performance. Relevant applications include reviewing group information, discussing financial statements and identifying limits in a financial analysis.
For example, a reporting professional may explain why a headline result does not tell the whole story. However, responsibility for reporting work depends on the role, experience and applicable professional requirements.
The Management level also includes CIMA E2: Managing Performance and CIMA P2: Advanced Management Accounting. Pass, or hold exemptions from, all three objective tests before progressing to the Management Case Study.
Completing the Management level leads to CIMA’s Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting and progression to the Strategic level. However, Berkeley F2 training alone does not confer that award or CIMA membership. Confirm your individual route with CIMA.
Berkeley’s certificate records F2 training completion. CIMA results and awards are separate; F2 tuition does not itself confer CIMA membership.
Make each adjustment visible and link it with the facts that support it. For example, keep a short explanation beside a working so a reviewer can understand why it is needed.
Check the basis of a comparison before interpreting a change. In addition, identify missing context that could alter what the reported figure appears to show.
Present the main finding and its limits in plain language. Then show enough of the working to let the reader assess how you reached it.
