CPA ISC - Information Systems and Controls is designed for candidates preparing to assess information systems, IT controls, cybersecurity and assurance from a CPA perspective. Candidates cover information systems, IT infrastructure, cloud computing, IT controls, data management, cybersecurity, privacy, access controls, incident response and SOC engagements, supported by MCQs, Task-Based Simulations, exam techniques and mock examinations. The focus is on identifying technology risks, evaluating controls and determining whether systems and data can be relied upon.

The Uniform CPA Examination is developed by the AICPA and administered with NASBA on behalf of U.S. Boards of Accountancy. CPA licences are issued by the relevant state or jurisdictional Board of Accountancy.

What is the eligibility?

ISC - Information Systems and Controls is one of three optional Discipline sections of the Uniform CPA Examination. Candidates must pass three Core sections: AUD, FAR and REG, plus one Discipline: BAR, ISC or TCP. Eligibility depends on the requirements of the selected U.S. jurisdiction and may include education, accounting and business credits, international qualifications and foreign credential evaluation. Choosing ISC does not create a separate CPA licence. All Discipline choices lead to the same CPA licensure pathway, subject to applicable jurisdictional requirements.

The CPA ISC examination includes 82 Multiple-Choice Questions and 6 Task-Based Simulations within 4 hours. MCQs account for 60% of the score, while TBSs account for 40%, making ISC the Discipline section with the highest MCQ weighting.

Exam Dates

Information Systems and Controls (ISC) is a CPA Discipline section offered during designated testing periods rather than continuous Core testing. In 2026, Discipline exams are scheduled in January, April, July, and October, with October 2026 being the remaining scheduled period, subject to eligibility and appointment availability.

Passing Criteria

Candidates must achieve a scaled score of 75 or higher on each of their four CPA examination sections. A score of 75 does not mean that 75% of questions were answered correctly, as the CPA Examination uses a scaled scoring methodology.

The Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination is available throughout the United States of America and at approved international Prometric testing locations. Candidates in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Jeddah and other international locations should confirm current examination availability when scheduling.
