Cambridge International A Level Arabic enhances language skills, preparing students for university studies and careers by improving fluency, accuracy, and translation abilities.

Overview

Cambridge International A Level Arabic builds on the language skills gained at Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge O Level or Cambridge International AS Level, and is the ideal foundation for university level study, or to improve career prospects. Learners will gain an understanding of how to use the language in a variety of situations. They will be expected to handle texts and other source materials, extracting information in order to respond to specific tasks. Through their studies, learners can expect to achieve greater fluency, accuracy and confidence in the language. They will also learn how to translate material from English into Arabic.

Course structure

Introduction to Arabic Language and Culture

The "Introduction to Arabic Language and Culture" module introduces students to the basics of the Arabic language, focusing on vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. It also explores the cultural contexts, traditions, and diverse regions where Arabic is spoken, providing a well-rounded foundation for further study.

Arabic Grammar and Syntax

The "Arabic Grammar and Syntax" module delves into the structure of the Arabic language, covering verb conjugation, sentence construction, and the use of tenses and moods. It equips students with the skills to form complex sentences and improve their understanding of how Arabic grammar functions in both written and spoken forms.

Advanced Arabic Reading and Comprehension

The "Advanced Arabic Reading and Comprehension" module focuses on analyzing and interpreting complex Arabic texts, including literature, media, and historical documents. Students will enhance their ability to extract key information, understand different dialects, and translate content between Arabic and English with accuracy.

Arabic Writing and Composition

The "Arabic Writing and Composition" module emphasizes developing writing skills in Arabic, including crafting essays, formal letters, and creative pieces. Students will learn how to structure content effectively, improve their writing style, and tailor their language for different contexts, from academic to professional communication.

‣ Instructors' experience and style in presenting and explaining topics.
‣ Variety and balance of teaching methods (such as discussions, case studies, mock exams and videos) used in the course to ensure retention and to match the learning objectives.
‣ Level of interactivity.
‣ Feedback from program participants
‣ Full compliance with Institute standards and guidelines for preparation and study requirements and methodology.
‣ Progress reports from the training program provider.

What are the Exam Information?

Exam Format & Duration
  • Advanced (A) Level or
  • Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level.
  • Candidates wishing to take a Cambridge International A Level must take all components of the assessment in the same examination series. It is not possible for candidates to follow a staged assessment of these qualifications. Centres can offer an AS qualification either as a stand-alone assessment, or as a means of testing candidates’ skills and competence before they enter for the Cambridge International A Level exam. See Section 4 for an outline of the components. Note: The use of dictionaries is not permitted in any assessment.
  • Availability This syllabus is examined in the June examination series. It is also available in the November series in Mauritius only. This syllabus is available to private candidates. This syllabus is not available in all administrative zones.
