The vision of the PhD - Doctor of Philosophy in Law is to become a globally recognized pathway for advanced legal education and research, empowering scholars and legal professionals to generate original knowledge, influence legal development, and contribute to a more informed and equitable society. Moreover, its mission is to provide rigorous doctoral-level legal education that develops advanced research, critical analysis, academic writing, and legal reasoning skills. Furthermore, the program encourages original and interdisciplinary scholarship while preparing graduates to contribute meaningfully to academia, legal practice, public policy, international organizations, and legal and regulatory institutions.

What is the eligibility?

  • For entry onto the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law, applicants must hold a master’s degree in law (LLM) or a closely related discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Candidates with a master’s degree in a related field may be considered, subject to approval and relevance of prior academic background and research focus.
  • Applicants must submit a research proposal demonstrating the originality, feasibility, and academic significance of the proposed research area.
  • Learners must be 18 years of age or older at the commencement of the program.
  • International qualifications will be assessed for equivalency to UK postgraduate standards.

Step 1: Admission and Enrollment

Applicants should hold a recognized LLM or relevant master’s degree. They must submit academic transcripts, qualification proof, a research proposal, and an updated CV for academic and research assessment.

Candidates work with academic supervisors to refine their research focus, select appropriate legal frameworks, and develop a robust methodology. They then prepare a research proposal demonstrating originality, critical analysis, legal relevance, and academic rigor.

Upon successful completion of the research program and approval of the doctoral thesis following a viva voce examination, candidates are awarded the PhD in Law. Graduates may also participate in a formal graduation ceremony, either in person or virtually.
