This comprehensive training program is designed to equip participants with the essential skills required to build powerful and interactive dashboards using two of the most popular tools in data analysis—Microsoft Excel and Power BI. The course caters to beginners and intermediate learners looking to enhance their data visualization and reporting abilities.
This course is designed to be highly interactive from start to finish. At every step, participants will clearly understand the purpose behind each activity and how they can apply their new knowledge and skills when they return to the workplace. The course kicks off by ensuring that all participants are familiar with and can effectively use the most important foundational concepts and techniques in both Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power BI for desktop.
To get the most out of this course, participants should arrive with Excel 2024 or Office 365 fully installed and with a mindset ready to actively engage in discussions. They should be prepared to contribute examples and suggestions to enrich the learning experience. The materials and case studies used are up-to-date, including advanced tools like the Regular Expression function, Python for Excel, and more. Prior to the course, participants will receive detailed instructions on how to set up Excel, download and install Power BI, and any other necessary resources. This course is not only interactive but also intensive. Despite being just two days long, we aim to achieve a great deal in that time, ensuring that participants leave with valuable skills and insights.

The 2-day Creating Dashboards with Excel & Power BI training program is designed to teach participants how to efficiently create interactive, dynamic dashboards using both Excel and Power BI for comprehensive data analysis and business intelligence.
On Day 1 of the training, participants will start by mastering key Excel techniques, including the use of Excel Tables and Pivot Tables, to manage and analyze data efficiently. They will also explore essential Excel functions such as IF statements, SUMIFS, VLOOKUP, and dynamic array functions like UNIQUE, FILTER, and XLOOKUP. The day will then transition into Power BI for the Desktop, where delegates will learn how to import data from various sources like Excel, CSV files, and databases, and begin creating basic visualizations. The training will also cover advanced data manipulation techniques using Power Query, including data cleaning, unpivoting, and combining tables. Participants will be introduced to Power Pivot for building data models and creating relationships, as well as design principles inspired by experts like Edward Tufte and Stephen Few. The goal of Day 1 is to equip delegates with the foundational skills in both Excel and Power BI to set the stage for creating impactful business intelligence dashboards.
On Day 2 of the training, participants will dive deeper into advanced dashboard design techniques, starting with Display Principles such as creating effective charts for time series, smoothing data, and using sparklines for trends. They’ll also explore advanced chart types like target vs. variance charts, frequency distribution, and performance against target ranges. The session will include creating dynamic controls using form elements such as checkboxes, combo boxes, and scroll bars, as well as using dynamic named ranges for charts. The course will then cover advanced data analysis using Pivot Charts, Slicers, and Power Pivot. Participants will also learn how to automate their dashboards by linking to data sources through Power Query, Power Pivot, and Power BI, ensuring automatic updates and refreshes. Finally, the day will focus on selecting the most appropriate visualizations for various data types, including column, line, pie, scatter, and heatmaps, and will teach participants how to apply array formulas and rank values with Pivot Tables. By the end of Day 2, delegates will have the tools to create highly interactive, automated, and insightful dashboards.
