The CIA Part 1 examination covers four key areas aligned with the Global Internal Audit Standards: Foundations of Internal Auditing (35%), Ethics and Professionalism (20%), Governance, Risk Management and Control (30%), and Fraud Risks (15%).

Exam format & duration

The Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) Part 1 - Internal Audit Fundamentals examination is computer-based and consists entirely of multiple-choice questions. The examination includes 125 multiple-choice questions with a total testing time of 150 minutes, requiring candidates to demonstrate their understanding of internal audit fundamentals, ethics, governance, risk management, controls, and fraud risks.

Passing Criteria

The Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) examination uses a scaled scoring system, with candidates requiring a minimum score of 600 out of 750 to pass.
