The Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) Part 1 - Internal Audit Fundamentals examination is computer-based and consists entirely of multiple-choice questions. The examination includes 125 multiple-choice questions with a total testing time of 150 minutes, requiring candidates to demonstrate their understanding of internal audit fundamentals, ethics, governance, risk management, controls, and fraud risks.

Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) examinations are generally available throughout the year, subject to registration and testing-centre appointment availability. 

Passing Criteria

The Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) examination uses a scaled scoring system, with candidates requiring a minimum score of 600 out of 750 to pass. The scaled score should not be interpreted as a simple percentage of questions answered correctly, as the final score reflects the examination’s scoring methodology.
