CAIA Level II is computer-based and delivered through Prometric. 

CAIA Level II Exam Format

Section 1: Multiple-Choice Questions

The first section contains 100 Multiple-Choice Questions to be completed in 130 minutes, representing 70% of the total examination score. Candidates have approximately 1.3 minutes per question on average. An optional 30-minute break is available between Section 1 and Section 2; once Section 1 ends, candidates cannot return to it.

Section 2: Constructed-Response Questions

The second section contains three Constructed-Response Question Sets to be completed in 130 minutes, representing 30% of the total examination score. Each set contains multiple parts, so candidates should allocate their time according to the marks available for each response, ensuring answers are concise, technically accurate, and directly address the requirements of the question.

Exam Dates

CAIA Level II examinations are generally offered in March and September.

Passing Criteria

CAIA Association does not publish a fixed numerical passing score. 

Recommended Study Time

The CAIA Association recommends 200+ hours of preparation for each examination level, although actual study requirements vary according to a candidate’s alternative investment experience, portfolio management knowledge, quantitative ability, professional background, previous qualifications, and constructed-response skills. Candidates typically complete the overall CAIA program within 12-18 months, although both levels can potentially be completed within one year because examinations are offered in March and September.
